Summer Development Internship

Location: Tucson, AZ

Hours Per Week: 10-20 hours *

Start Date: Flexible

Description:
Join Airy Optics in developing the Polaris-M 2.0 polarization ray tracing engine. The Development Internship will teach applicants how to plan, write and maintain software. Interns are needed to maintain and improve the usability and quality of the software. This involves using Polaris-M 2.0 for real-life optical applications, create examples of specific features, testing the software for quality assurance and more.

Requirements:

Optical Engineer

Location: Tucson, AZ

Description:
Airy Optics is looking for a full-time Optical Engineer to work on the Polaris-M software. Since 2016, Airy Optics Inc. has been upgrading Polaris-M from a research code to a commercially-available product. Written in Mathematica, Polaris-M contains many advanced algorithms for Polarization calculations. More capabilities, and user interface tools, need to be developed and maintained. In addition to developing Polaris-M, Airy Optics uses the software to tackle difficult engineering service questions. Applicants will need to be able to: identify the problem presented by customers, formulate solutions into a Statement of Work, and plan and execute polarization analysis on customer provided optical systems.

Senior Optical Engineer

Job Description: Senior Optical Scientist/Engineer
Airy Optics, Inc. is seeking a motivated and creative Senior Optical Scientist/Engineer to lead the Engineering Services Group. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of geometrical optics, aberrations, and electromagnetic theory, and have experience designing and building custom optical components and systems.

The roles of the Senior Optical Scientist/Engineer will include:
• Demonstrated ability to design novel optical components and systems.
• Develop a deep technical understanding of customer technical requirements; then collaborate with customers to develop optical components and systems that are practical and cost-effective.
• Responsibility for group technical work output.
• Knowledgeable with state-of-the-art in optical design software.
Program Management
• Leader of multi-disciplinary teams for optical component and system development projects.
• Plan projects and develop schedules and budgets for engineering services.
• Coordinate resources to ensure completion of projects to schedule and budget.
• Regularly communicate progress with internal teams and external customers.
• Ensure projects are designed, tested, and validated to customer’s statements of work.

Job Requirements, Qualifications:
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, Applied Physics.
• 8+ years of experience in Optical Engineering.
• Experience modeling and optimizing optical systems using software such as Zemax, CodeV.
• Experience with mathematical software including Mathematica.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong problem-solving skills and organizational skills.
• Understanding of linear algebra, Fourier analysis, and numerical analysis.
• Strongly motivated and inquisitive.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with MS Office tools – Excel/Office.

Optical Software Engineer

Airy Optics is always looking to improve our code and stay competitive by adding new, highly requested features to the next version of Polaris-M. Applicants will be expected to write Statements of Work and verify optical design code for proof of concepts. Additionally, applicants may work with engineering services to help expediate the addition of critical features.

Description:
Airy Optics is seeking full-time technical writer to help maintain documentation and facilitate in knowledge transfer. Polaris-M offers over 500 functions that have been documented and over 100 different training materials and white papers. Applicants will need to be able to provide clear, easy-to-read explanations of highly technical topics, proof read existing documents, and provide constructive feedback.
